Bass Reeves was a former enslaved person who became one of the first Black deputy U.S. marshals in the American West.


– He served for 32 years in the Indian Territory, where he arrested over 3,000 criminals and killed 14 outlaws.

– Reeves was known for his bravery, intelligence, and tracking skills. He was also a skilled linguist, speaking fluent English, Cherokee, Creek, and Seminole.
